Somewhere high in the stratosphere, lies Angel Island. On this island rests an entity of infinite energy, the Master Emerald. As the last remaining Echidna, it is Knuckles' birthright to guard the gem with his life. His duty defines much of his character. He is stubborn, serious, and secluded to a fault. However, Knuckles has an unrelenting belief in the good of others. He is oddly forgiving which has been used against him in the past. It is indeed his empathy that drives him to team up with Sonic, and put an end to the forces of evil.
